Beaten to the Punch Line
All my lady-comic friends are discussing this Washington Post article (thanks, Joselyn; also check out Carolyn's response), entitled "Beaten to the Punch Line: The Odds Against Female Stand-Up Comedians Are No Laughing Matter."
Who the hell makes Lisa Lampanelli cry?
Who the hell makes Lisa Lampanelli cry?
Um, I think I'm going to look for a wife. I'm pretty sure I could get one."It sucks for us, you know?" she says through her tears. "If you're a woman [comic], you don't have the option to have a nice wife who stays home and has the kids for you. There's just this mind-numbing schedule, and you can't believe there's nothing else out there in life.
"I'm jealous of the male comics who have kids. Who have wives. Who have a life. I cried on Valentine's Day because I had nothing going on."

This article was so broad (ugh fucking puns) I really didn't get the point of it. It's harder to make it in the world of stand-up as a woman? Or are there less women in stand-up to begin with because it does not appeal to them?
And I hate to apologize to Maria Bamford, but most female stand-ups I see are not funny. I know that's an incredibly un P.C. thing to say. But this is how it is. Not because I feel threatened by them. (One of my biggest fantasies is to one day be Sandra Bernhard's toy boy) But because they tend to work in the same cliches, just like Mrs' Lampinelli said.
Please find some footage of the "America's funniest mom" contest Nick At Nite was running, to see what I'm talking about.
There are genius females in comedy, and they have nothing to worry about. The cream always rises to the top, this is especially true in stand-up. Be patient and don't eat yourself up over what you think other's may have in their favor.
Most women stand-ups don't have the guts to offend: they're too focused on looking pretty rather than outright shocking. Having said that though, it is undeniably funny to see a grown woman cry on stage.
Wow.
So what I dont have a significant other to whine to? They are a pain in the ass anyway. So what I dont have a this and a that and just have my career where I work steadily as a comedienne/ventriloquist/puppeteer/impersonator/actress/singer/acrobat? Its what I have and its what makes me happy. And do you see me envying male comedians? Mutherfucking no.
Granted, female comedians do have it harder. Because in my career as a comic I have had pressure to sleep with men for spots, etc. I have always told them I didnt want what they were selling. Plus comedy is male dominated. But that doesnt mean that there arent any funny women. I have come across many like yourself. And lots of times they can trump the men who are often borish pigs anyway. In my opinion women are much smarter and more focused because we would never let a dick get us off task. But I digress.
At the same time women in every profession are subject to idiot bosses who attempt to get sex in exchange for promotions, etc. And the world still views women as lesser unfortunately. I do not need to go on about how when a woman is sexually assaulted she often hears from men that it was "her fault" and she "led him on" but I would be getting off topic. Point is, anyway you cut it this is still a mans world.
Tell Lisa Lampenelli to shut her fucking mouth. She is whining like the fat pathetic human being she is. And she's not funny anyway in my opinion. Please lady, shut the hell up. Women have it harder. Who cares? Either play with the big boys like the rest of the successful women in comedy or shut the hell up, eat another ho ho because that is what fat people do, and then make a baby. I know this is all over the place but I hate cunts that complain.
