today's "news"
I'm in Cleveland at my aunt's house. This morning when I got up, she was watching the news and commented that it was all Larry Birkhead and Don Imus -- they haven't covered any political or world issues all morning. Mr. Intrepid Young Journalist, who has had various jobs involved in the production of this news (but none of which give him the authority to tell the network put Anna Nicole on hiatus), has also been frustrated by this. A number of blogs I read have had threads about Imus, replete with hundreds of comments: an apology isn't enough, people don't spit out racist things unless they're really racist, etc.Um, yes. Can we all just agree that old white people are almost all totally fucking racist, and we just have to wait for them to die? We can certainly take them off the television and let them die without a public platform. But really now -- of course Imus is racist. Really, really racist. I just can't believe so many minutes of footage could possibly be dedicated to that fact. Send him to a nursing home to slowly fade away, cared for by Jamaican nursing aides who push him around a little and then deny it, telling him he has Alzheimer's.

On the one hand we know Don Imus is an intolerant asshole. What else do you expect from a man in a cowboy hat that looks like the Grinch after too many painkillers?
On the otherhand, what made me angry about the whole thing was that he insulted not just women basketball players, but young girls. This is the Rutgers University basketball team. These women arent like D-1 football players who are red shirted for three years and take classes where they have to watch cartoons. They are 18, 19, 20, 21,22, and maybe even a 23 year old sneaks in. But the average age is 20. Someone calling me a ho at that age would have made me cry. I can only imagine how those women feel right now.
The whole time I was reading about what he said about these women I could only think of my college aged sis and her buddies. Don Imus, you are a mean old man. Im sorry, feel strongly about subject.
The really old people, like 60 and up, lean more towards being racist mainly becaused they were indirectly raised that way and lived in that environment. My Foster Grandparents were great, and tried their best not to be, but sometimes it just slipped out.
