Perhaps you were incorrectly assuming the sign was expressing the temperature. Perhaps it was refering to a nearby angle of some sort.
One North Fork employee to another...
"Why do people keep asking about the damn 160 degree angle in the sculpture on my desk? Can't they see that the bend is only 159 degrees? I mean, does no one understand my art? 160 degrees? That wouldn't be art at all!"
"Dude, what the fuck are you talking about?"
"Shut up! I'm putting it on the fucking sign and the next person to say 160 is getting kicked in the junk."
"But... this is a bank. Someone is bound to say the number sooner or later for a totally unrelated reason."
"That's a chance I am willing to take for my art."
I'm quite sure it happened just like that.
