American Apparel hates women

Seriously?
I'm also kind of tired of reading the Onion on the subway and having people see the back page American Apparel ad and assume that I am reading porn. A couple weeks ago I had some greased-up bridge-and-tunnel guy sitting with two friends on an otherwise totally uncrowded train see the back of my reading matter and say in a super-sleazy manner, "Well well, what are you reading?"
"The Onion," I said. And then I realized that this woman, pictured, was on the back page performing some hideous hipster contortion. She's not even making it look easy. Or attractive. Or fun. Or like a good reason to buy leggings. I think they keep her in the basement, with only plaster reindeer for entertainment, and kept alive on a diet of PBR and ironically-purchased Hostess snack cakes.

I work near one of those devil-stores. Not only are they the only place I've EVER seen Unitards for sale and are basically trying to bring the 80's fashion back, but all of their posters inside look like kiddie porn, with underage-looking models in skimpy 80's bathing suits or whatnot. I can't walk into that store without feeling like a pervert in the 80's, when being a pervert was in, apparently.
Total BS. I hate that store.
Anonymous, that video was perfect. "If Dov Charney wants to take your shoes, he takes your shoes!"
More likely: zebra cakes and High Life. So good!
PS American apparel is like a Freudian reading of hipster culture, so why expect less mysogyny when you can have so much more?
I do like some of their clothing...
but alas I refer to the AA photographer as Mr. Crotch and Boobie Man!!!
- Savvy1007...
Amen. Dude, a few years ago when these ads started coming out I knew they made me feel dirty, but I couldn't pinpoint exactly why (the AA ads were considerably tamer then IMHO). I suppose my gut feeling could see the future because now, like spatula007 called it, they're akin to child porn. I thought I was being prudish at first. AA can suck it - the only thing they have going for them is that supposedly their clothes aren't made in sweatshops (although I've heard the factory isn't that great). The clothes are cheaply made and overpriced. And the ads make me nauseous.
