welcome to fundamentalist beach resort family-fun-time Jesus paradise

This is a picture of me in front of Lynnhaven Mall in Virginia Beach. The Oceanfront has had these “No Swearing” signs for some time. This is the first one I’ve seen away from the tourist beach strip.

Do they actually have some enforcement related to those signs? Do you get a verbal warning for uttering the S-word? Does the F-bomb warrant a fine?

Can you use swear words from other languages or obscure swear words that those who enforce this law may not be aware of?

Are they using a specific dictionary to enforce this law? What would they do if you got a later edition and picked out expletives that weren’t in the earlier edition? What about using words that weren’t expletives but were suitably obscure as to be misinterpreted?

You could have so much fun with this. In a very geeky way.

Well, I’m not sure there’s any actual enforcement, or that the signs themselves actually represent any law.

It may be that the City Council simply voted to put up some “no swearing” signs, because … it might make people swear less.

I mean, otherwise, you get into that whole thing about some amendment….

Got something to say?
